GABRIEL GRANCO, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Geography at Cal Poly Pomona

E-mail: ggranco@cpp.edu

I am a human-environment geographer focusing on sustainability, land use, water, and responses to global environmental change. More specifically, I study how humans’ decisions affect the environment, and vice-versa.

I am a synthetic thinker who enjoys interacting with colleagues from both the social and environmental sciences and incorporate common themes into an integrated transdisciplinary product. Currently, my main interest as a researcher is to understand sustainability in agricultural systems studying the interplay between local and regional settings, in a tele-coupled world using geospatial methods, Agent-Based Modeling, and econometrics. The study of the transitioning process to sustainable agricultural production is necessary under global environmental change so that policymakers and scientists can simulate viable options of regulatory, incentive, management and educational intervention.

I have joined California State Polytechnic University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) in 2019. As an assistant professor in the Geography and Anthropology Dept., I have had the opportunity to live the Cal Poly Pomona’s teacher-scholar model. Recently, I received two awards to fund my research in agricultural suitability, climate change, and Artificial Intelligence. These awards are informing my teaching, while also offering a possibility for students to engage in real-world research. In the Research tab, you can find more about these awards on California Specialty Crops Sustainability and Climate Change (CSC+SCC – USDA/NIFA/AFRI 2022-67023-36150) and on Artificial Intelligence for Social Good (AI4SG – NSF/HSI/IUSE 2142490), and my scholarly activities. Students interested in collaborating in this research can find more information on the research group and contact me at ggranco@cpp.edu.

I invite you to visit the other pages and check my CV to get more information about my research interests and teaching approach.

Please contact me at any time to share your thoughts!

Thanks,

Gabriel Granco
